To all the winter lovers, we have snow here in Lanesboro! This is exciting news for those of us who enjoy winter activities outdoors. Candlelight events are a wonderful experience for those who like to get out and enjoy winter in a whole new light. Trails are lit with lanterns or luminary, and you can enjoy the Minnesota snow under the beautiful stars.
Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center will be hosting its annual Candlelight Snowshoe event on two dates: January 20, 2018 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and on February 17, 2018 from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm. During these special events, you will have the opportunity to stroll along a lighted trail on a beautiful winter evening. Listen to the wind over the prairie as you explore the nighttime woods, then stop by a campfire to warm up. There will be an additional unlit trail through the prairie for those interested in a longer route. Snowshoes will be provided by Eagle Bluff, headlamps will be available but feel free to bring your own. An illuminated hike will take place in case of no snow. Please note that there is no age limit, however snowshoes may not fit younger children. Time slots for this event are at 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Whalan will be hosting a Candlelight Ski on the Root River State Trail on February 3, 2018. This event will take place from 5:00 pm- 9:00 pm. Candlelight luminaries will guide you as you ski or walk the mile and half round trip on the Root River State Trail. You may warm up by a bonfire at each end of the route. Enjoy a soup and sandwich supper in the Whalan City Hall while you visit with friends. This event is sponsored by the Minnesota DNR and Whalan Ladies Auxiliary. A ski pass is required. Have you ever been on a private horse-drawn wagon ride? Sveen Wagon Rides can provide a memorable winter journey through the bluffs of Whalan. This ride takes about an hour. Half way through the trip, you will stop at the scenic overlook where there is a warm cabin to take the chill off. Restrooms are available and you are welcome to bring your own beverages, or something to consume while at the cabin warming up! Sveen Wagon Rides take place on private property at 26926 Everyday Road in Whalan/Lanesboro.
