Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center is just five and a half miles from Stone Mill Hotel & Suites. Eagle Bluff offers programs for families and students of all ages. Challenge yourself on the high ropes course, explore their 11 miles of trails, or join them for a skills school class.
Join award winning cheese maker, Dave Sefton for a morning of cheese creation. In this 3 ½ hour class, you will learn the art of cheese making and help in cooking 3 kinds of cheese, including a farmer’s cheese, a soft cheese and Colby/ Monterey Jack. Learn how to turn your very own Christmas ornaments this season at Eagle Bluff. Designs that may be turned include a snowman icicle, an old fashion Christmas light bulb, a small Christmas tree and a small candle. Wood will be supplied by Eagle Bluff, but you are encouraged to bring your own if desired. You are also encouraged to bring your own tools, if you have them. Are you a pie lover? Join Eagle Bluff for an Eagle Bluff Amish Experience: Pie Making Demonstration on November 18th. Learn from an experienced Amish baker from 8:30am – 12pm. Your Amish instructor will expertly whip up several types of pies from scratch. Learn about using a wood stove and sample the results with coffee. Not only will you gain insight into the Amish lifestyle, you’ll create warm and tasty memories on this Saturday morning. The class meets at Eagle Bluff and travels to the Amish home in a van. Also on November 18th, Eagle Bluff will be hosting a Hand Tied House Broom class. This class takes place from 9am- 12:30pm. You will build a broom to handle daily sweeping duties. After the class, you will take home a large, rustic and completely usable house broom. The broom may be manufactured on a straight stick or you can bring in a seasoned, natural stick of your own. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live without electricity and modern appliances? This is an opportunity to visit an Amish home and learn how to bake bread in a wood fired stove. After the bread is baked and the butter is made, you will enjoy the freshly made bread with a warm beverage. Take a loaf of Amish made bread home and experience the Amish community. The class will meet at Eagle Bluff and a van will take you to the Amish home. This class takes place November 18th from 12:30pm – 4pm.
Jewelry lovers will enjoy the Glass Bead Creation class at Eagle Bluff on November 18th as well. This class will take place between the hours of 1pm and 4:30 pm. The art of bead making is one that has been around for thousands of years. Join in on this fun by learning how to create your very own glass beads. Bead designs, colors, tools and safety will be covered. By the end of the class, you will have 1-2 glass beads that you created. Throughout November, the International Owl Center will offer Live Owl Programs. A variety of different programs are offered based on the people present in the audience, but you might learn to identify owls by their silhouettes and sounds. The St. Mane Theatre will showcase local talent in the “Over the Back Fence” Community Variety Show on November 10th at 7:30 pm. Talented local cast, musicians and other guests will perform music, skits, jokes, comedy, poems and more. This show has been kept rolling by lively host Damon Prestemon, who has managed the stage chaos of Back Fence cast members, sound effects, sponsor interviews, audience participation, spontaneous humor and sing-alongs. Box office opens at 6:30 pm and pre-show music begins at 7:10 pm. Tickets are $8 and available online.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro will be hosting a Meatball Supper with a Norwegian menu on November 12th, 2017. The menu will include Norwegian meatballs, mashed potatoes and gravy, glazed carrots, cranberry relish, lefse, rolls, holiday baking, coffee and milk. Serving times will be from 11 am – 5 pm, or until all the goodies are gone. Carry-outs will be available from 11 am- 4 pm. Craft and Bake Shoppe open at 11am. Prices are as follows: Adults $12, Children 5-12 $6, Children 4 & under- Free, all carry-outs $12.
Calling all geniuses, smarty pants and know-it-alls! You can put your knowledge to use at High Court Pub on Tuesday Trivia nights! Each week they will focus on a topic starting at 7:30 pm. Bring a team or join one when you arrive- members of the winning team each take home bragging rights and $5 drink chips. High Court Pub is located in downtown Lanesboro, at 109 North Parkway Ave.
High Court Pub also hosts an Open MIC Night every Thursday evening. Head down to the pub for an evening of music and community, featuring local talents and musicians. Local Ben Marlof will be hosting, and he encourages all levels of talent to perform. No need for musical skills, feel free to read your favorite poem. You can even pick out your favorite song to sing, karaoke style. The evenings kick off at 7:30 pm.
Ghostwriter will play at the Commonweal Theatre until November 12th. This play is based on novelist Franklin Woolsey in this romance-meets-mystery-meets-ghost story. The Philadelphia Inquirer calls Ghost-Writer a “tantalizing, understated and lovely” romance about the power of written word and the wonder of creativity. The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge starts on November 16th and will play through December 22nd. This delightful spoof on the holiday classic will get you in the holiday mood! Bring your dancing shoes to Lanesboro, the Holiday Dinner Dance takes place this Deccember 2nd, 2017! This wonderful event will be at the Lanesboro Community Center.
