What a week in Lanesboro! We had the Stand Still Parade in Whalan, Trout Days in Preston and the Bluff Country Gathering of fiddlers here in Lanesboro. One of our guests was one of the fiddlers. His name is Gary Bartig and he designs violins and basses. His instruments are all over the world. The person who plays bass behind Dolly Parton, has one of his basses. While we were eating, he serenaded us. He played “Over the Rainbow” for me which is one of my favorites. It was the first song I sang at contest when in high school. If you would like to know about Gary, here is is Web Site. Thanks Gary and Karen for staying with us.
As I write this, I am overwhelmed at the variety of things to do this weekend in Lanesboro, Minnesota and the surrounding area.
The Bluff Country Gathering, a traditional American music festival, will be held in Lanesboro on May 15 – 18.
On Saturday, May 17, The Annual Stand Still Parade and much more will be in Whalan, a short five mile drive from Lanesboro. There will be live entertainment, food, antique cars, demonstrations and more. I have attended this event, and it is a fun event for the entire family.
Preston Trout Days will be on May 16 – 18. Preston is a short eight mile drive and the activities include a parade, music, volleyball tournament, street dance, and a car show.
It is so fun to take in all of the events and festivals that are being held in the area. We are ready for the season at Stone Mill. The bike rack is out, and the flowers are blooming.
Until next time . . . .
The new front desk area at Stone Mill Hotel & Suites is now decorated with the feed bags in the picture. One of the bags was used in the facility during its “working days”. As the renovation continues, we realize this will be an extended project and appreciate your continued support and patience as we work to be the “choice” lodging destination in Lanesboro.
The Stand Still Parade has become an annual event in Whalan, MN and will be held on Saturday, May 19 from 11 am – 4 pm. Not only can you experience a parade where the “parade stands still” but you will also be able to sample a variety of foods, watch the pie eating contest, and listen to music. Children’s games, a petting zoo, and other activities will be available for the kids.
The Bluff Country Gathering will be held in Lanesboro this weekend. This multi-day event is sure to attract musicians from a wide area and provide entertainment for all ages.
After you take in the weekend festivities, check out the Spud Boy Diner and Another Time Ice Cream Parlor & Chocolates. The diner and ice cream parlor are Lanesboro’s newest additions to the casual cuisine scene.
If you care for a short drive, The annual Trout Days celebration will be held in Preston, MN.
Wherever you are, near or far, there’s always a few more things to explore . . . .
