Amish Tour Season is Just Around the Corner in Lanesboro, MN!

 

Spring is almost here, meaning it is almost time for Amish tour season here in Lanesboro, MN!

Amish tours are a popular attraction here in bluff country. Bluffscape Amish Tours of Lanesboro will take you on a fun, educational experience through the Amish countryside of Southeastern Minnesota. Tours begin on April 14th, 2018 and depart from Stone Mill Hotel & Suites at 100 Beacon Street in Lanesboro, Minnesota through October. Daily tours take place at 10:00 am and 1:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. The Amish respect Sunday as a day of rest. The tour will typically take about 3- 3 ½ hours . You will travel in a large van or a 14 passenger mini bus with a guide to Amish farms and shops in the countryside. On this excursion you will visit Amish farms, Amish retail craft shops, and you may see Amish working in their fields, gardens and yards. You will have the opportunity to get out at each stop, and possibly visit one of their homes! On Saturdays, home-made pie and ice cream may be available for tasting and the opportunity to take a horse-drawn wagon ride may present itself. You will not go hungry either, Bluffscape Amish Tours will stop at one of their wonderful bakeries as well.

  

People often wonder what items are available for purchase. The Amish are known for making beautiful quilts, table runners, rugs and pot holders. You may have seen some of the woven baskets for sale at Stone Mill Clothing & Gifts that are made by the Amish, napkin holders, wine carriers and much more. Amish made furniture is well made and carefully crafted by the hands of skilled artists, along with other wooden accessories, toys and gadgets. Jams, jellies, canned vegetables, sweets and candles will line the shelves at Amish markets.

 

There is a lot to learn about the Amish, and tours are fully narrated by a guide. While taking the tour, you will learn about the fascinating history of the Amish. From schooling and families, to courtships, weddings, shunnings and funerals, the guides of  Bluffscape Amish Tours are well-equipped with knowledge of the local Amish communities of bluff country. These tours are great for people of all ages.

Prices for the tour are $30 for adults, $20 for teens, $10 for children (6-12 years old) and children 5 and under are free. As mentioned, guests of Stone Mill Hotel & Suites will receive a 10% discount on the tour.  Younger children are welcome, please bring your own car seats. A good thing to keep in mind is that the Amish do not work with credit card machines, but they will accept cash or personal checks. Out of respect for the Amish, pictures of the Amish people will not be allowed. Guests may take photos of some things on the farms such as machinery, but not of the people. Payments are taken on the day of the tour at Stone Mill Hotel & Suites at the front desk. Bluffscape accepts cash, credit cards or checks. The Amish Backroads Tour is a pleasantly narrated audio recording that directs you to Amish shops and points of interest. This CD tour is great for people who like going at their own pace in their own car.  This CD is available for rental at Stone Mill Clothing & Gifts. No reservations are needed. Rent this CD and enjoy learning about the history and culture of our wonderful Amish neighbors, seeing the beauty of the backroads scenery, and perhaps finding some Amish treasures and treats along the way.
