Stone Mill Suites and Bluff Country Gathering

What a week in Lanesboro!   We had the Stand Still Parade in Whalan, Trout Days in Preston and the Bluff Country Gathering of fiddlers here in Lanesboro.  One of our guests was one of the fiddlers.  His name is Gary Bartig and he designs violins and basses.  His instruments are all over the world.  The person who plays bass behind Dolly Parton, has one of his basses.  While we were eating, he serenaded us.  He played “Over the Rainbow” for me which is one of my favorites.  It was the first song I sang at contest when in high school.  If you would like to know about Gary, here is is Web Site.   Thanks Gary and Karen for staying with us.

Fall Foliage and Holiday Shopping In Lanesboro, MN

I can’t believe we are over half way through the month of October.   A few more weeks and the doors will be closed on beauty of this season, and we will usher in the next season and its beauty.  I think I used the word “beauty” generously when it comes to the upcoming season.  I have a tendency to enjoy the changing of the seasons; however, winter doesn’t provide much enjoyment for me personally.

At this writing, we are experiencing a cool October week.  The morning temperature was 22 degrees.  The morning air provided a cool bicycle ride for our guests at Stone Mill.  With the temperatures being cooler, visitors to Lanesboro are looking for alternate activities in and around Lanesboro.

An Amish tour from Bluffscape Amish Tours is a wonderful activity for those cooler days.  On this tour you will not only learn about the Amish community, but also have the opportunity to visit their farms and tour their shops.  In the Amish community, you will find beautiful furniture, gorgeous baskets, and awesome chocolate covered cashew crunch.

If you stay in Lanesboro for the day, why not get started on your holiday shopping?  The shops in Lanesboro provide for a unique shopping experience where you can find the perfect gifts for your friends and all of those on your list.  The picture above is only a sampling of the gifts that can be found in the Art & Craft Gallery at Stone Mill Hotel & Suites.

Continued good wishes to everyone for a wonderful fall.  Next week, at this time, we will be getting our costumes ready for Halloween!

Until next time . . .

Explore SE MN Lanesboro Bluff Country

As we have turned the calendar to August, there is still plenty of time to enjoy the beauty of the season in Minnesota before the dreaded “white stuff” starts to appear.  The bluffs of Southeastern MInnesota are lush and green and the communities that are in bluff country have theater, shopping, dining, and overnight accommodations to make your trip to the area complete.

Lanesboro with all of its quaintness and charm, has travel specials that will make any traveler stop and take note.

As I look out the window and as the days get shorter and the page in the calendar is turned, once again, I know the shades of green of the bluffs will begin to give way to the rich colors of the next season.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Until next time . . . .

The Newest Item On The Root River Bike Trail In Lanesboro, MN

Did you ever wonder where bicycle enthusiasts get those really cool looking jerseys?  And, did you ever wonder where you can get one of those really cool looking jerseys?

Now you also can have one of the coolest and hottest new bicycle jerseys on the state trail system this year!  The jerseys are sold at some of the Lanesboro businesses that partnered in the design and creation of the (in my opinion) coolest looking jersey around.  The jerseys can be purchased at Pedal Pushers Cafe, the Art & Craft Gallery at Stone Mill Hotel & Suites, and Lanesboro Local.

There are so many jerseys out there that speak to every taste and idea.  Why not have a bicycle jersey that speaks to your taste and preference of the Root River Bicycle Trail?

Emily Spende, president of the Lanesboro Chamber of Commerce, is shown in the pictures sporting the new jersey.  What a great way to tell to all your friends and bicycling buddies about the great Root River Bicycle Trail.

If you see Emily on the trail, say “hi” to her from her friends at Stone Mill.

Until next time. . . .

Stone Mill in Lanesboro Welcomes Alley Cat Designs

On Saturday, July 20 from 9 am – 5 pm,  Annette Evenson of Alley Cat Designs will be at Stone Mill Hotel & Suites in Lanesboro showcasing her handcrafted, wire wrapped jewelry. Throughout the day, Annette will be demonstrating how she makes her wire rings and crocheted necklaces.

Annette’s first experience with jewelry came at a young age when she was spending time with her dad, who was a jeweler and watch repairman in Calmar, Iowa.  He would let her “untangle and fix” broken necklace chains.

More recently, her good friend, Robbie Brokken, introduced her to the “world of jewelry” and taught her the basics in making earrings and necklaces.

She also enjoys scrap booking and card making.  Annette lives in Harmony, MN with her husband, Scott, and their Scottish terrier, Max.

Join us as we welcome Annette!  Look for her outside under the tent!

Until next time . . .

Plan a “Fall Fun Run” to Southeast MN and Lanesboro MN

With summer going by quickly and fall fast approaching, now is the time to plan a “fall fun run” to Lanesboro to rest, rejuvenate, and explore.  At Stone Mill Hotel & Suites, you can check off all of the above-mentioned items. Imagine, you could be sitting and enjoying morning coffee or a glass of wine on the deck. (You could be you in one of those chairs!)

Your exploration can start with the on-premise Art & Craft Gallery.  If exploration of the area is for you, why not take an Amish tour with Bluffscape Amish Tours.  If you want to take a self-guided tour of the Amish community, you can rent an Amish Backroads Tour CD.  Either of these tours will provide a fun and educational way to learn more about our neighbors.

After a day of fun, you can rest and relax in any of the rooms or suites.  For a step above in relaxation, choose a suite with a double jacuzzi. Soak the stresses of the day away.  You can rejuvenate at the on-site Day Spa with a variety of massages and services.  Let your muscles be soothed with a circulatory or deep tissue massage.  Give your body the comfort it deserves.

Beyond the doors of the Feed Mill, you will find many activities in Lanesboro such as canoeing, tubing, theater, shopping, and golfing.

If your exploration takes you beyond the limits of Lanesboro, Niagara Cave near Harmony, The Spam Museum in Austin, and Four Daughters Winery near Spring Valley are popular destinations in Southeastern Minnesota.

Until next time . . . .
